German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier sharply criticized US foreign policy and urged the world not to allow the global order to collapse. He said that if neglect continues, strong countries could try to control weaker nations.
Steinmeier expressed these views at a meeting held in Germany. He cited recent events, such as the ousting of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, and emphasized that global democracy is now under threat more than ever before.
Although the German president’s role is mainly ceremonial, he is known for openly expressing his views on political matters. He reminded of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine as a historic turning point and said that current US actions are also seen as a second historic rupture.
Steinmeier stressed that active measures are needed to preserve the world order. He noted that countries like Brazil and India must also be convinced to support this order.
