An arrest warrant has been issued against OnePlus's CEO in Taiwan

Taiwan's prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant against OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau on January 13th. This was reported by local official sources.

The businessman is accused of illegally hiring local engineers in Taiwan. According to current legislation, Chinese companies must obtain special permission from the Taiwanese government before hiring Taiwanese specialists. Investigative bodies believe that OnePlus did not comply with this requirement.

Taiwanese officials aimed to prevent the departure of highly qualified personnel from the country through such measures. For this reason, control over the activities of Chinese companies has recently been strengthened.

For reference, OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer for the global market, a subsidiary of Oppo Corporation. The company was founded in December 2013 and managed to establish itself in the global market in a short time.
