Wildfires in Chile: 19 people killed

At least 19 people have been killed as a result of wildfires in central and southern Chile. The fires are spreading quickly due to strong heat and wind. Authorities are evacuating people from dangerous areas.

Across the country, 23 active fires have been recorded. The largest fires are in the Ñuble and Bio-Bio regions. A state of emergency has been declared in these areas. Some fires are moving closer to residential areas.

According to official information, more than 20,000 hectares of land have burned so far. The largest fire is near the city of Concepcion. Homes have been damaged in several towns.

Specialists say high temperatures are expected. New risks may arise because of the fires. Residents have been asked to follow safety measures.
