He shared these forecasts during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, noting that AI development has accelerated faster than expected and that humanity is moving closer to a technological singularity.
In Musk’s view, the main problem is not technology but a shortage of electricity. While chip production for neural networks is increasing, the energy infrastructure of many countries is not keeping up with such loads.
As an alternative solution, he proposed moving part of the computing power into space. SpaceX plans to launch satellites equipped with AI systems that run on solar power and can cool in a vacuum.
Musk also said that despite the risks, artificial intelligence could deliver large-scale benefits. In his view, with proper oversight, AI and humanoid robots like Tesla Optimus will bring closer an era in which goods and services become more affordable and convenient for everyone.
