There are reports that watching or distributing South Korean TV series and music in North Korea is being punished with severe penalties. The Sun, citing sources, wrote that in such cases, measures such as execution, deportation to labor camps, and public humiliation are applied.
North Koreans who left the country told Amnesty International that the only way to avoid punishment was to give large bribes. It was also noted that some are forced to sell their homes to avoid being sent to a "re-education camp."
It is noted that the penalties apply not only to adults, but also to adolescents. According to the fugitives, a group of schoolchildren were publicly executed for watching the series "Squid Game."
Witnesses also say that some law enforcement officers themselves secretly watch prohibited content. Within the framework of "ideological education," students are taken to see mass punishments.
According to Amnesty International interlocutors, despite the risks, foreign content is still widespread in North Korea. It is mainly imported through China through secret routes.
