The family of the late Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny announced that epibatidine was detected in biological samples taken abroad after his death. Multiple independent laboratory experts analyzing these samples reached the same conclusion. This was reported by The Insider.
According to the publication, representatives of labs from the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany, and the Netherlands examined Navalny’s biological materials and plan to issue a joint statement at the Munich Security Conference.
Epibatidine is a powerful neurotoxin originally isolated from the skin of the Epipedobates tricolor tree frog in South America. It has since also been synthesized artificially. The substance affects nerve receptors and can cause numbness, paralysis, and respiratory arrest.
The Insider reports that the symptoms observed in Navalny align with the known effects of epibatidine. Reanimatologist Dr. Alexander Polupan, who treated Navalny, also stated in public sources that the signs match the effects of this poison.
In September 2025, Julia Navalnaya revealed that after Navalny’s death, his team obtained biological material samples and sent them to foreign laboratories. Independent labs confirmed the likelihood of poisoning in these samples.
Julia Navalnaya issued a strong statement saying that there is clear evidence of her husband’s poisoning and that the perpetrators must be held accountable.
