Uzbekistan is causing meat price hikes in Kazakhstan

The rise in beef prices in the domestic market of Kazakhstan may be linked to the volume of exports to neighboring Uzbekistan. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Yerbol Tasjurekov, at a briefing held at the Central Communications Service. Reports qalampir.uz.

According to the deputy minister, Kazakhstan produces more meat than it needs. For example, last year the country produced 430,000 tons of beef, while domestic demand was 400,000 tons. The remaining 30,000 tons of products are exported. Tasjurekov noted that because meat prices in the Uzbekistan market are higher than in Kazakhstan, local producers prefer to sell their products to the neighboring country.

This situation is leading to a decrease in supply and an increase in prices in the domestic market of Kazakhstan. The government is working on a new comprehensive plan for the development of livestock farming, which is expected to help both stabilize the domestic market and increase export potential in the future.

Previously, various statistical data regarding meat export prices to Uzbekistan had been published. In particular, reports that 1 kilogram of meat was sold for around 3 dollars were questioned by the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, which suggested it might have been a technical error.
