Iran signals US base with missile test

The geopolitical situation around the Middle East is becoming more tense. It has been reported that Iran launched two medium-range ballistic missiles at the strategically important Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
According to reports, none of the fired missiles hit the target. According to sources, one of them failed due to a technical malfunction during the flight. The second was intercepted by the US Navy - a SM-3 defensive missile system was used against it. However, there is no official confirmation that it was definitely shot down or destroyed.
Importantly, this situation is considered the first case of Iran using medium-range ballistic missiles in practical combat conditions. At the same time, this attempt is seen as the first serious signal to US interests outside the Middle East.
The Diego Garcia military base is located approximately 4,000 kilometers from Iranian territory, and this event is causing Tehran to reconsider its perceptions of missile technologies. According to experts, this may mean that Iran has the capabilities of a longer-range missile than it previously officially stated.
Earlier, Abbas Arakchi stated that the Tehran missile program deliberately limited the flight range to 2,000 kilometers. He emphasized that this decision was made to avoid perceiving Iran as a threat in the international arena.
However, recent events have shown that there may be a certain difference between these statements and practical actions. According to geopolitical analysts, such signals can have a serious impact on future military-political relations.
In short, this phenomenon shows that security issues are becoming increasingly relevant not only in the region, but also on a global scale. Further steps can establish new rules of the game on the big policy scene.
