US deployed 176 aircraft to rescue F-15 crew in Iran

Last weekend, the US military deployed hundreds of personnel and approximately 176 aircraft to rescue the crew of an Air Force F-15E shot down inside Iranian territory, Axios reports.

The equipment involved in the operation included bombers, fighter jets, refueling tankers, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

According to Donald Trump, 155 aircraft were specifically required to rescue the weapons systems officer. Most of them were mobilized to distract and mislead Iranian forces. The operation was carried out at seven different points, but only one of them was the actual rescue site.

During the rescue operation, the US lost several aircraft and helicopters.

Previously, the US lost three F-15 aircraft in an incident involving a Kuwaiti F/A-18 Hornet. Additionally, more than ten MQ-9 Reaper drones, one E-3 Sentry (AWACS) following an Iranian attack on a base in Saudi Arabia, and one KC-135 Stratotanker in a crash over Iraq have been lost to date.
