Amid a sharp escalation on the global political stage, Donald Trump made an unexpected decision. On the night of April 8, as the deadline of the ultimatum imposed by the United States on the Iranian leadership was ending, Washington officially announced a temporary suspension of military actions.
It is reported that this decision is directly related to the Strait of Hormuz issue. The United States set the condition that this strategic maritime route be opened “completely, promptly, and safely.” In exchange for the fulfillment of this requirement, attacks against Iran are being suspended for two weeks.
According to Trump, the United States has “achieved more than enough” in reaching its military objectives. At the same time, he emphasized that Iran’s 10-point proposal, which could serve as a basis for negotiations, has been accepted. In his view, almost all major disagreements between the two countries have been resolved.
Soon after, Trump issued another statement, noting that the United States will actively assist in resolving the problem of ships accumulated in the Strait of Hormuz. He described this process as “the beginning of positive changes,” emphasizing the increase in economic activity and the emergence of significant financial opportunities. He also mentioned that a period of recovery could begin for Iran and even referred to the possibility of a “new golden era” in the Middle East.
Interestingly, just a few hours before these events, Trump had made a rather sharp statement. He warned that a potential conflict could lead to catastrophic consequences for an entire civilization and that such a process could become “irreversible.” At the same time, he did not rule out that if wiser and more balanced forces come to power, the situation could undergo a sharp turnaround.
Whether the announced two-week pause is merely a temporary delay or the groundwork for actual negotiations will be revealed in the coming days. But one thing is clear: this “pause” in global politics resembles a calm before the next major move.
