For the first time, a woman has been appointed commander of Australia’s army

A significant event has occurred in the history of Australia — Lieutenant General Susan Coyle has been appointed as the commander of the country’s Defence Forces. Thus, she has become the first woman to hold this position. This was reported by “Al Jazeera”.

It is reported that Coyle replaced former commander Simon Stuart, who stepped down. Prior to this, she led the reserve forces corps.

With nearly 40 years of military experience, Coyle has held key roles in international operations in Afghanistan and the Middle East. In particular, she participated in military operations conducted in cooperation with the United States.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the appointment as a historic step, noting that it will contribute to increasing the number of women in the army.

Currently, women hold 18.5% of senior positions in Australia’s Defence Forces. The government aims to increase this figure to 25% by 2030.
