U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that there are no plans to use nuclear weapons against Iran, Reuters reports.
During a press briefing with journalists at the White House, Trump emphasized that conventional military capabilities are sufficient for the United States to achieve its objectives. According to him, there is currently no necessity to utilize nuclear weapons.
At the same time, the American leader noted that nuclear weapons should ideally never be used, expressing his position against the deployment of such arms. He stressed the importance of moving away from these weapons from a global security perspective.
Addressing the situation regarding Iran, Trump stated that Tehran has attempted to restore its military potential to a certain extent during peacetime. Nevertheless, he asserted that the U.S. armed forces possess the capability to respond to any threat within a short timeframe.
Regarding a potential agreement, the President indicated that he would not act with haste. In his view, reaching a stable and long-term agreement with Iran remains a priority.
