According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. local time at a bank branch located on Chestnut Street in the city of Berea. The armed individual entered the premises, opened fire on bank staff, and fled the scene.
Kentucky State Police spokesperson Scott Pennington stated that the attack has caused serious concern among the public. “We understand that the residents of Berea and Madison County are currently in fear. Their safety is our priority. We are taking all measures to find the perpetrator and bring them to justice,” he said.
Police have provided a description of the suspect. The individual is approximately 1.90 meters tall and was wearing a light-colored sweater, dark gloves, gray pants, and light-colored athletic shoes. It is currently unknown whether the suspect took any money or other valuables from the bank. It is also being determined whether the perpetrator fled on foot or used a vehicle.
Law enforcement agencies have urged the public to remain vigilant, recommending that residents lock their doors and windows and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. Keeping exterior home lights on was also recommended as a safety measure.
Police representatives addressed the suspect, calling on them to surrender voluntarily. “You have already committed a serious crime. Turn yourself in before anyone else gets hurt,” Pennington warned.
