New payment proposed to boost birth rate in Taiwan

The Taiwan government has proposed expanding subsidies for families with children to boost the birth rate, Focus Taiwan reported.
According to the proposal, families with children under 19 could receive a monthly payment of 5,000 New Taiwan dollars, approximately 155 US dollars.
Currently, such assistance is provided only to families with children under five. If implemented, the full amount will be paid in cash until the child turns five.
For children aged 6 to 17, half of the subsidy is planned to be transferred to a savings account, which can later be used for the child's university education.
