New species of 80-million-year-old giant marine predator discovered

Scientists have identified a large marine reptile that lived during the age of dinosaurs. The new species has been named Tylosaurus rex, Reuters reports.

Researchers re-examined previously discovered fossil bones and determined that this creature belongs to a distinct species. Its massive size, sharp teeth, and powerful jaw and neck muscles indicate it was a dangerous marine predator.

Tylosaurus rex lived approximately 80 million years ago in the ancient inland seas of North America. According to scientists, it reached a length of nearly 13 meters.

Experts suggest that this creature primarily fed on large fish and other marine animals. It was considered one of the most powerful hunters in the ocean during its time.
