Ordinary cheese found to have caused a seven-year coma

A tragic incident in Italy has once again highlighted the need to pay serious attention to food safety. A child who had been in a coma for seven years after eating cheese made from raw milk has died. Local media reported the news.

According to reports, the tragedy occurred in 2017 in the town of Koredo, in Italy’s Trento province. At the time, the child, who was only four years old, ate cheese made from raw milk contaminated with Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. Shortly after consuming the product, the child developed severe abdominal pain, and their condition deteriorated rapidly.

The child was rushed to hospital and underwent a full medical examination. Tests revealed that the child had hemolytic uremic syndrome. Expertssay that this serious illness can cause extremely severe complications in the human body. In particular, it can lead to brain damage, paralysis, loss of vision and severe epilepsy.

Due to severe complications from the illness, the child fell into a coma and did not regain consciousness for seven years. During this time, doctors tried various treatments to save the child’s life, but recovery was impossible. The child’s death was made public by the father, Giovanni Battista Maestri.

The incident once again served as a reminder of the importance of food quality and of exercising particular caution when consuming products made from raw milk.
