On March 29 in China, a Xiaomi SU7 electric car crashed into a concrete barrier at 116 km/h due to road construction, cenyavto.com reported.
According to the company, the driver was not the car owner. The autopilot was active, but shortly before the crash, control was taken over by the driver. Despite that, the car lost control and caught fire.
Logs show that the system detected an obstacle, initiated braking, and alerted the driver to "grab the wheel". The driver took over, but the vehicle still crashed at 97 km/h.
An official investigation is ongoing. Xiaomi formed a special internal group and promised support to the victim’s family.
