The current generation Porsche 911 GT3 may be one of the last versions to feature a naturally aspirated engine. Andreas Proyninger, head of the GT line, announced that the future of the 4.0-liter engine is in question due to tightening environmental regulations. Ixbt.com reports on this.
According to him, this engine might be maintained longer in certain markets, such as the US. However, new emission standards in Europe will drastically limit its lifespan.
Without significant modernization, this engine will only be able to meet requirements for the next few years.
Porsche currently faces a strategic choice. One option is to transition to a turbocharger for the GT3, which has not been used before.
Another path is to add a hybrid system to reduce harmful emissions while preserving characteristics.
The company does not plan to develop separate versions for different markets. Given the European Union's goals to reduce emissions by 2030, changes to the model's design remain inevitable.
