Honda unveils new hybrid fastback concept

Honda has unveiled a new hybrid fastback concept intended for series production within two years. Known as the Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype, this model resembles the current Honda Accord with its sloping roofline and sharp rear angles. Although the Accord has been withdrawn from the UK market, it remains a key model for the Japanese brand in the US. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .

The new vehicle will be equipped with Honda's next-generation hybrid system. Company representatives state that this powertrain is the world's most efficient system, being 10% more fuel-efficient and 30% cheaper to produce than current hybrid technologies. This will serve as a key factor in increasing the company's profitability.

Honda is refocusing its attention on hybrid models. This decision follows the company's first-ever annual loss of 423.9 billion yen in 2025-2026. The financial losses are primarily linked to abandoning electric vehicle production programs and closing the Afeela brand, a joint venture with Sony.

Executive Vice President Eiji Fujimura stated that costs related to canceling electric vehicle projects will amount to 2.5 trillion yen. While Honda leadership admitted the decision was difficult from a business perspective, they emphasized that this does not mean a complete abandonment of electric vehicle technologies.
