President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the multinational people of Uzbekistan on the blessed holiday – the Day of Remembrance and Honor, as well as the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II.
"On these emotional and at the same time sorrowful moments, we remember with deep gratitude our heroic ancestors who made a worthy contribution to saving humanity from the scourge of fascism, and we bow our heads in respect before their bright memory.
Today, we express special congratulations and sincere thanks to our esteemed war and labor veterans who are actively participating in building the New Uzbekistan with their priceless prayers and wise advice.
Undoubtedly, on this blessed day, when the guardians of peaceful and prosperous life are glorified, honoring the memory of our brave soldiers who heroically died defending the freedom of our Motherland and the tranquility of our people during the years of independence is both our duty and moral obligation,” the congratulatory message reads.
It is noted that in the bloody battles against fascism, about 2 million citizens of Uzbekistan out of the 6.8 million population at that time took part. Of them, about 540,000 died, 158,000 went missing, more than 50,000 died due to inhumane torture in concentration camps, and over 60,000 returned disabled.
214,000 Uzbek soldiers and officers were awarded combat orders and medals; 301 of them were granted the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and more than 70 were awarded all three classes of the Order of Glory.
Uzbekistan, during the war years, became a solid rear base for the front. From our republic, a huge volume of military equipment, weapons, medicine, clothing, food and other necessary supplies were sent to the frontlines — this constitutes yet another unforgettable page in that stormy era.
More than 170 factories and plants from war-affected territories were relocated to Uzbekistan, and within a short time, 280 new enterprises were established.
Despite extremely difficult conditions, our people embraced about 1.5 million evacuees, including 250,000 orphaned children who had lost their parents, offering them love, care, and compassion.
“While recalling once again such examples etched in the book of history, we praise and salute the great humanistic values of our noble and generous nation, which remained faithful to human ideals in any situation,” the message states.
It is emphasized that in recent years, significant work has been done to deeply study and promote the lives and heroic deeds of our brave ancestors, their courage and resilience, and to educate the younger generation in the spirit of their glorious traditions. In this regard, the Victory Park built in Tashkent and the “Patriotic” parks in the regions play an important role. These sacred places have quickly become sites of reverence for all our citizens and foreign guests. Another monument of great historical importance — the “Devoted Sons of the Nation” memorial — erected in Victory Park in honor of the defenders of our Motherland, undoubtedly holds immense significance.
“I am confident that this majestic artistic complex, where the names of hundreds of fallen heroic servicemen and law enforcement officers are engraved in golden letters, will become another revered place that our people will genuinely cherish and take pride in,” the message reads.
It is further noted that the noble idea of “For the dignity and happiness of every person” is becoming more deeply embedded in our daily life. This year, a one-time monetary award of $10,000 was granted to veterans and disabled persons of World War II, 25 million soums to individuals equated to this category, and 3 million soums to labor front participants. Also, the “80th Anniversary of Victory in World War II” jubilee medals were presented — a vivid expression of our attention and care for our respected veterans.
Medical and social services, including patronage care, are being provided for veterans and persons with disabilities. They are being treated in sanatoriums upon their request. With the participation of responsible leaders of ministries, departments, organizations, and military units, visits are being paid to veterans of war and labor, as well as to the families of servicemen and law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty during the years of independence, providing them with necessary assistance and support.
“Indeed, we are eternally indebted to such selfless individuals who did not spare their lives for today’s peace, freedom, and independent life. They will continue to feel the love and care of our state and society. Dear and esteemed compatriots! In this complex and turbulent time, the determination and resilience shown by our heroic forefathers during the years of World War II will always serve as a school of example, a source of strength and inspiration for us in raising our youth as well-rounded individuals, preserving peace and stability in our country, and maintaining interethnic and interfaith harmony.
On this unforgettable day, I once again sincerely congratulate you — our dear veterans and all our people — and wish you health, happiness, good fortune, and prosperity in your homes,” the congratulatory message concludes. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
