
The total number of people killed in a powerful gas explosion in a multi-storey building located in the “Boghisaroy” mahalla of citizens’ gathering in Samarkand has reached 7. This was reported on the “Milliy” TV channel’s “Millar” program.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of May 8 to May 9 in one of the multi-storey buildings located on Spitamen Street in the city. As a result of the powerful explosion, the reinforced concrete structures of the building collapsed, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the building and the basement were seriously damaged.
Although there was no fire during the explosion, several apartments in the building were completely destroyed by a very strong kinetic impact. Upon receiving information about the incident, fire and rescue and emergency services personnel immediately arrived at the scene of the disaster and began search and rescue operations for citizens trapped under the rubble.
As previously reported, during the first stage of rescue operations, the bodies of 6 deceased were found among the rubble. Today, as a result of special search operations, another person, the body of the seventh victim, was found and removed from under the rubble of the house.
At present, the Samarkand Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Affairs Department are continuing their investigation and inquiry into this terrible incident. The relevant departments are conducting large-scale studies with the participation of experts to determine the causes of the explosion.
The local population and the city community are deeply saddened by this tragedy, and the responsible authorities are reporting that necessary measures are being taken to identify the possible causes and prevent further tragedies.
