The 2300-year history of the mysterious fortress-city has been revived in Kashkadarya

Archaeologists from Uzbekistan have discovered an extremely important and amazing find in the Kashkadarya oasis - the site that the locals called "Boburtepa" has been scientifically confirmed and is more than 2300 years old. Studies have shown that this area has been a major center of populated life for several centuries.

According to the Ukrainian publication The New Voice, the city occupied an area of more than 6 hectares and was probably an important transit point connecting the trade route between ancient Bukhara and Khorezm. That is, "Baburtepa" was considered one of the economic arteries of that time.

What findings were made during the excavations?

For two years, archaeologists studied three major sectors. During excavations:

- strong fortress walls

- security and guard posts

- remnants of defensive structures

- a large palace or ceremonial hall in the city center

- large room and adjacent small room systems

- fragments of colorful wall frescoes

Extremely valuable finds like have been obtained.

The head of the project, Sanjar Abdurahimov, noted that the discovered paintings demonstrate the high level of development of the culture of that time. Certain lines, paints, and compositions indicate that the art of that time was very powerful.

Crafts center city

Another aspect attracted the attention of researchers - "Boburtepa" was not only a settlement, but also a center of crafts.

During excavations:

- pottery workshops

- places for processing stone and metal

- large storage containers

- hundreds of ceramic samples

This proves that production is quite developed here.

Archaeological upsurge in Kashkadarya

The article notes that this discovery coincided with the peak of archaeological activity in Greater Kashkadarya. In 2025 alone, researchers registered more than 100 previously undocumented archaeological sites.

The Samarkand Institute intends to continue these excavations as a long-term project. Thus, many more historical secrets and new scientific discoveries are expected from Kashkadarya.
