Authorities seized 6 kg of gold-bearing sand, 1.4 kg of chemicals, and equipment intended for gold smelting, while the estimated damage to state interests exceeded 111 billion soums. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 196-2 of the Criminal Code, and investigations are ongoing.

An illegal gold mining operation in a state-protected area of the Navoiy region has been uncovered and shut down by relevant authorities. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the data, an individual born in 1986 had previously purchased nearly six hectares of land in the “Sarmishsoy” gorge area of the Navbahor district through an auction. Despite the fact that this territory is under state protection as an archaeological monument, illegal excavation work was conducted there.

It was established that he hired 19 workers to manually mine gold-bearing stone and soil, extracting gold particles through processing.

During the operational measures, the following were seized from the illegal workshop as material evidence:

- 6 kg of sand mixed with gold,

- 1 kg 400 g of chemicals,

- Equipment and containers designed for gold smelting.

Additionally, 4 trucks and 4 loaders were placed in a detention lot for inspection.

According to expert estimates, the damage caused to state interests and the historical site exceeded 111 billion soums.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this situation under Article 196-2 of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are ongoing.
