Truck carrying over 1,700 beehives goes missing in Russia

In Russia, a truck carrying 1,728 beehives imported from Uzbekistan has been missing for a month. This was reported by the Life publication.

According to reports, the truck passed through a border checkpoint in the Astrakhan region at the beginning of April. It was supposed to head to a special quarantine zone in the Kurgan region but never reached its destination.

It is noted that quarantine is mandatory for imported bees, as they can carry various infections and parasites. However, according to locals, the designated quarantine area was not prepared to receive such cargo, lacking the necessary equipment and conditions.

Following this, activists appealed to the relevant authorities, and beekeepers filed complaints with the prosecutor's office and law enforcement agencies. Currently, the truck and the driver are being searched for nationwide.

Experts emphasize that uncontrolled imported bees could pose a serious threat to local species, potentially causing mass die-offs. Additionally, their stings could lead to severe allergic reactions and other negative consequences.
