The group matches of the intercontinental stage of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Cup between U-19 and U-21 youth teams in handball have ended in Pristina, Kosovo. The U-21 and U-19 national teams of Uzbekistan successfully participated in the competition and reached the semi-finals.
U-21: Uzbekistan - Rwanda
The U-21 national team of Uzbekistan played against Rwanda in Group B. In the first half of the match, the East Africans had the upper hand, with a score of 18:20. In the second half, the Rwandan team did not lose the initiative, and as a result, the match ended in their favor with a score of 40:32.
Thus, the U-21 team of Uzbekistan took second place in the group and advanced to the semifinals. Now our compatriots will compete for a place in the final against the leader of Group A, Bulgaria.
U-19: Uzbekistan - USA
The U-19 youth team competed with the USA team in Group B. In a tense clash to determine the first place in the group, the teams fought evenly. In the first half, the score was 15:15, but in the second half, the Uzbek youth team won by one point, winning 33:32.
This result brought our U-19 team to the semifinals. Now our youth handball players will compete with the Nigerian team for a place in the final.
Qualifications and finals
According to the organizers, the semifinals, third-place playoff, and finals will be held on March 15-16. The winning teams in both age categories will qualify for this year's World Championship.
These successes of the Uzbek national teams are an important milestone for handball in our country. We wish our compatriots good luck in the semifinals!
