Why has Abbosbek Fayzullaev's game declined?

Why has Abbosbek Fayzullaev's game declined?
Under the guidance of Serbian specialist Marko Nikolic, CSKA Moscow has become a serious contender for top spots in the current Russian Premier League season. In the spring of 2025, the "army men" continue to please fans with consistent play and good results. After beginning the second half of the season with a draw against Zenit in Saint Petersburg, the team achieved five consecutive wins before drawing once more with Krylia Sovetov.

During the winter break, coach Marko Nikolic changed the team's playing scheme. These changes brought positive results for CSKA but created new challenges for Uzbek legionnaire Abbosbek Fayzullaev, who has been the team's standout player over the past two years.

The 21-year-old talented player previously played as a winger but has now moved to the center of the field, performing both attacking and defensive duties simultaneously. Many experts note that Abbosbek has not yet fully adapted to his new position.

Former team coach Oleg Fomenko explained the reasons behind the decline in the Uzbek footballer's performance.

— Why does Abbosbek's game seem weaker than before? Is the new playing scheme the reason?
— To understand this, first of all, you need to talk directly to Abbosbek himself. However, I think it's not just about the new scheme.

— Then what is the reason?
— Most likely, it's due to the inconsistency typical of young players. This season, Abbosbek has been under enormous pressure and heavy workload. He played many games not only for CSKA but also for Uzbekistan’s youth and national teams, participating in the Olympic Games and World Cup qualifiers.

Numerous flights, travels, and lack of rest naturally impact a young player.

I don't think Abbosbek has problems with the new scheme because he is a very intelligent, disciplined, and professional footballer. He just needs some time to adapt to new conditions and heavy workloads.

Abbosbek frequently missed national league matches due to international duties. Participating in the Olympics puts significant psychological and physical pressure on a player. Even strong European clubs often struggle in their national leagues after challenging Champions League matches. I believe Abbosbek will gradually overcome this pressure.

To remind, Abbosbek Fayzullaev has played 32 matches this season in the Russian Premier League and the Russian Cup, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists.

We believe Abbosbek will soon return to his high level and continue attracting the attention of European clubs.
