Will Eldor Shomurodov head to Turkey with Basaksehir?

The captain of the Uzbekistan national team and one of the main stars in the attack — Eldor Shomurodov — may be on the verge of a new turn in his career. He is currently playing for Roma, but according to Italian and Turkish journalists, the forward may soon change clubs.

According to the Italian publication "Ilromanista," after Gian Piero Gasperini became Roma’s head coach, noticeable changes began to occur in the club's transfer strategy. One of the players with an uncertain future in the squad right now is Shomurodov.

According to well-known Turkish insider Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Istanbul’s Basaksehir club has already begun initial talks with Eldor. This Turkish Super Lig team intends to strengthen its attacking line and is showing serious interest in the Uzbek striker.

Turkish media note that Basaksehir sold Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek to Qatar’s Al-Duhail, earning 10 million euros from the deal. They plan to fill his position specifically with Eldor Shomurodov. Negotiations are proceeding positively, and the parties are close to reaching an agreement.

In the 2024/25 season, Shomurodov played 37 matches for Roma, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists. Initially, he was on the bench, but as the season progressed, he was able to prove himself and secure a place in the starting lineup. He now has considerable experience in Italy, and his physical condition is rated highly.

Basaksehir’s coaching staff highly values Eldor’s European experience, his effectiveness with the ball, and his ability to move across the entire field. It is clear that the club aims to become even more effective in attack through this transfer.
