A new era is beginning at Manchester City. The coach, Josep Guardiola, who has left behind years full of great achievements, challenges and trophies, is now firmly determined to renew the squad. This is the stage of the club's "rebirth".
Last season’s lack of trophies was a serious signal for City. The coach saw the way out of the crisis in trusting young talents. Already in January, the club signed contracts with three promising defenders — Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Juma Bani.
It is noteworthy that despite offers from several clubs, Guardiola decided to keep the Uzbek footballer Abdukodir Khusanov in the team. French club Lyon wanted to take Khusanov on loan, but the coach firmly refused this offer.
"Abdukodir is not only a key part of our team for the future, but also for now. I rely on him," sources around Guardiola say.
The experienced coach wants to see the young defender in the starting lineup for the new season. "City" completed this transfer on January 20 of this year for 40 million euros. Khusanov adapted to the team already in his debut, played 9 matches in the EPL, the FA Cup and the Champions League, and scored one goal.
Since April, however, Khusanov was left out of the main squad. The reason is a 5-million-euro bonus that had to be paid to the club "Lens". According to the agreement, if Abdukodir played in 10 games, "City" would have to pay the bonus. Therefore, he was not put on the field. This situation drew criticism from many sports journalists and fans.
In conclusion, Khusanov is currently seen as one of the main pillars for the future defense of Manchester City. Next to him will be Vitor Reis and, if healthy, experienced stars like Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, John Stones, and Manuel Akanji.
Guardiola's decisions are always aimed at the future. And now, all Uzbek fans look with hope that Abdukodir Khusanov will play a key role in City’s bright future. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
