Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has expressed frustration over Nico Williams’ failed transfer from Athletic Bilbao, Euro-football.ru reported.
The Catalan club had planned to finalize the 22-year-old’s transfer in the coming days, and multiple media outlets had indicated that the deal was nearly done. However, the Spanish player signed a new contract with Athletic until 2035.
According to Diario AS, Yamal was very upset with Williams’ decision not to join Barcelona. The 17-year-old talent had dreamed of playing alongside his friend at the same club.
To sign Nico Williams, a fee of €58 million was required. The new contract includes a significantly higher release clause.
This outcome was a major disappointment for Barcelona, who were eager to add a young, talented player to their squad. Now the club must explore alternative options.
