Manchester City’s head coach, recognized as one of the most influential tacticians in the world, Josep Guardiola, has officially confirmed that one of the team’s key figures, Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, is out again and is currently undergoing treatment.
The 29-year-old talented midfielder suffered a severe and serious knee injury in the autumn of 2024, which kept him away from top-level football for a long period — almost until the end of May 2025. Since then, his return had been eagerly anticipated by the fans with great hope.
However, during the summer at the FIFA Club World Cup held in the USA, in a tense and uncompromising match against Al-Hilal, Rodri once again faced an unfortunate situation. This time, he sustained a serious groin injury, and doctors stated that he would need more time to fully recover, according to English media.
— Rodri was really recovering well after the previous serious injury. However, in the match against Al-Hilal, an unfortunate episode occurred, and as a result, he was once again forced to leave the field. We hope he will return after the two-week international break in September, — said Josep Guardiola.
According to the famous coach, Rodri must never play while injured. “First of all, he must fully recover. Only then can he return to help the team,” Guardiola added.
It should be reminded that Manchester City will play their first match of the new Premier League season on August 16 away against Wolverhampton. Rodri’s absence is undoubtedly a serious loss for the team, but the coaching staff intends not to rush him and to prioritize his health.
