Is it true that the name of the Real Madrid stadium will change?

The renowned Spanish club Real Madrid has renamed its home stadium. Now it is officially called not "Santiago Bernabeu," but simply "Bernabeu." This was reported by the "Sport" publication.

The club's management stated that this decision was made to promote the brand in the global market and to be commercially effective. According to them, a short and modern name has a strong influence on marketing.

However, many fans oppose this decision. They considered the removal of the word "Santiago" disrespectful to the club's history and the legacy of former president Santiago Bernabéu.

"There's no Bernabeu without Santiago. Tomorrow it will be the Adidas Bernabeu or the Emirates Bernabeu," fans' association representatives said.

For reference, the stadium was opened in 1947 under the name "Nuevo Estadio Chamartin," and in 1955 it was renamed in honor of then-President Santiago Bernabéu.

1.3 billion euros were spent on the reconstruction, which began in 2019. The new project includes a modern facade, lighting systems, and multi-purpose areas.

The club's management plans to install a new "Bernabeu" sign on Paseo de la Castellana Street in the coming days. This is aimed at strengthening the new commercial image of the stadium.

As a reminder, Real Madrid rejected a €250 million naming rights offer from Emirates in 2017. However, current economic conditions are forcing the club to revise its commercial policy.
