UFA responds to Katanec’s assistants’ claim: “Everything is according to contract”

Today, reports emerged that the assistants of former Uzbekistan national team head coach Srečko Katanec intend to file a lawsuit against the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA). The association’s press service released an official statement regarding the matter.

According to UFA, the assistants’ employment contracts included a clause stating that “if the head coach’s contract is terminated, the assistants’ contracts automatically end as well.” Therefore, once Katanec’s tenure concluded, the assistants’ contracts were automatically terminated, and they were officially notified.

The statement added: “The head coach’s contract was terminated by mutual agreement, and a new coaching staff was appointed. This resulted in the conclusion of the assistants’ agreements.”

The association emphasized that such legal clauses are considered standard practice in FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) jurisprudence.

“Previously, UFA had offered the dismissed coaches positions within youth national teams, but they declined the proposal,” the official note said.

It was earlier reported that Katanec’s assistants planned to appeal to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, citing unpaid compensation. UFA, however, maintains its firm stance — all actions were carried out strictly in accordance with the contract.

The situation sparked wide debate among football fans: some defend the coaches’ rights, while others side with UFA’s legal position.
