At the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, the Uzbekistan national youth team started their debut with a match against Paraguay. Our guys won the match against the opponent with a score of 2:1 and started the competition with a victory. After the match, the head coach of the national team, Islambek Ismailov, shared his thoughts on the match.
"Of course, it was a very difficult and responsible game. The first match is always very exciting, especially for young players. We paid a lot of attention to this aspect during the preparation process, but despite this, we saw that emotions prevailed in the players. At the same time, they kept the situation under control and excellently followed the instructions given by the coaches. I consider this an example of collective discipline and willpower," Ismailov said.
The coach emphasized that since the opponent is physically strong, the tactical plan is focused on intensive movement and speed. "The Paraguayan players are physically strong and active. Having analyzed their strengths, we aimed to accelerate the game and be active in counterattacks. In the first half, this plan worked. As we lead the score, I'm grateful to my players who haven't lost their composure even in defense. This was the result of a pre-match plan," he said.
The head coach also noted that the competition is full of emotions: "Every match at the World Cup is like a fight. You've watched 8-9 games - emotions, pressure, cards everywhere. Therefore, we talked a lot with the players about maintaining peace and not making mistakes. This is important. Most importantly, the team knows how to win. Today's result is a great motivation for all of us."
At the end of his speech, Islombek Ismailov thanked the team members and the coaching staff and emphasized the need to act in the same spirit in the upcoming matches.
