FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on social media that he has obtained Lebanese citizenship. He emphasized that this is a great honor for him and, most importantly, opens the door to new opportunities.
During his visit to Beirut, Infantino met with Lebanese President Joseph Aun and participated in the country's citizenship ceremony. He noted that issues of cooperation between FIFA and Lebanon on the development of football, contributing to peace through sports, and implementing new projects in the field of youth and education were discussed.
"I am very happy that I am officially a Lebanese. We will continue to develop football not only as a game, but also as a weapon of peace, education, and opportunity," Infantino stated.
It should be noted here that the 55-year-old football official has also retained his Swiss and Italian citizenships. His spouse is the Lebanese woman Lina Al-Ashkar.
