Former Barcelona and Manchester City star midfielder Yaya Touré recently spoke openly about his personal relationship with Pep Guardiola, past difficult interactions, and decisions that were painful for him. From his words, it's clear that the period between 2007 and 2010 in the Catalan squad was extremely difficult not only in terms of sports but also in terms of human relationships.
According to the Ivorian footballer, Guardiola didn't hide the fact that his father also wanted to see the Spanish footballer, who played for Barcelona in those years - that is, Sergio Busquets - in his place. Recalling these words, Touré says that a relatively cold attitude towards Pep had formed since that time.
Touré stated that in the summer of 2010, Guardiola called him and asked him to stay with the team. However, Yaya did not take this offer seriously. The reason is that he wasn't given enough confidence throughout the season, his game practice was limited, and his philosophy didn't match. In his speech, he also recalled the sharp advice of his wife at that time:
"My wife said to me: 'He insulted you all season, and now he's telling me to stay? We're going to Manchester." He even considered Pep a bad person."
It's also noteworthy that Yaya Touré never mentioned Guardiola's name during the interview. Nevertheless, from each of his sentences, it is clear that the relationship between the two has never been warm.
As is known, in the 2009/10 season, Touré made 37 appearances for Barcelona. He then moved to Manchester City, where Yaya was forced to play for two more seasons under Pep when Guardiola returned as manager in 2016. In 2018, he left the team.
Yaya Touré's remarks are sparking widespread discussion among the football community. Because, without denying that Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in modern football, he openly expressed his personal objections to him as a person.
In the world of football, one truth is always true: stars are individuals who, while being a team on the field, live with their own feelings, pain, and thoughts as human beings.
