Spain's head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has commented on the results of the 2026 World Cup group stage draw. According to him, the "H" group with Spain is full of fierce competition, and each match will be a unique test.
The coach first of all focused on the general content of the draw: "In the competition, in which 48 teams participate, there is no easy opponent. Each team has its own game, threatens with its own style. After seeing the groups, coaches around the world must agree - the level of competition is very high," de la Fuente said.
He emphasized the importance of securing first place in the group for Spain. Because potential opponents in the next stage will depend precisely on this position. "Recently, we had a brief conversation with Argentinian head coach Lionel Scaloni - if the two teams cross paths in the playoffs, such a match would be fantastic. But our main task is to focus on our own game. We will fight for first place, because this will make our way to the playoffs easier," he said.
According to De la Fuente, the first two matches will be crucial for Spain. According to him, the opponents require great caution:
"Cabo Verde is making its World Cup debut - such teams usually get very inspired in their first matches. Saudi Arabia proved it by defeating Argentina in the last World Cup. Therefore, no opponent should be taken lightly."
The final match against Uruguay could determine the group's fate. However, the coach emphasized that all three matches are equally difficult: "We will prepare for a heated match against Uruguay based on the results we will achieve in the first two matches. But for me personally, all three are equally difficult."
For information, Spain is in Group H alongside Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. The reigning European champions aim to make their mark at this stage as well.
