Union Berlin defeats RB Leipzig

On Friday, as part of the European football week, Union Berlin and RB Leipzig faced off in a competitive match. Despite RB Leipzig’s second-place standing and greater ball possession during the game, they failed to convert this advantage into dominance.

The first half saw limited opportunities. Christoph Baumgartner's header was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper.

Janik Haberer, on the other hand, attempted a shot from the penalty area but failed to aim accurately. In the 57th minute of the second half, Union Berlin capitalized on a combination play, with Oliver Bjork opening the scoring.

Just three minutes later, Tidiam Gomis equalized for RB Leipzig with a quick counterattack. However, in the 63rd minute, Ilyas Ansa restored Union Berlin's lead.

In the 90th minute, Tim Skarke scored the third goal, putting the game beyond doubt. The final score was 3–1.

Thanks to this victory, Union Berlin climbed to 8th place in the Bundesliga standings with 18 points. RB Leipzig retained second place, although Borussia Dortmund remains a potential contender to challenge their position.
