Barcelona President Joan Laporta has responded to Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez's criticism of Spanish football authorities amidst the ongoing "Negreira case" investigation. According to Laporta, Real Madrid has been excessively focused on Barcelona for a long time, and this tendency has only intensified over time.
Laporta expressed that such rhetoric does not concern him, but rather indicates that Real Madrid is overly preoccupied with their rival, thus neglecting their own issues. "Previously, they had a case of 'Barcelonitis,' but now it has developed into acute 'Barcelonitis.'
I see that 'Barcelonitis' lies at the core and heart of Madridismo. They are more worried about us than about the issues they should be focusing on," Mundo Deportivo quoted Laporta as saying.
In the current La Liga season, Barcelona is leading the standings with 43 points, holding a four-point advantage over Real Madrid.
