The head coach of the Argentina national team, Lionel Scaloni, has revealed his votes for FIFA’s “Best Player of the Year” award. Although the trophy ultimately went to PSG forward Ousmane Dembélé, Scaloni notably omitted the current Ballon d'Or winner from his top three.
In Scaloni's ranking, the top spot was awarded to Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé. The second and third positions went to Barcelona players Pedri and Lamine Yamal, respectively.
For context, in December 2022, the final of the Qatar World Cup saw France and Argentina face off, with Mbappé scoring a hat-trick in that match. Nevertheless, Lionel Scaloni's team triumphed in the penalty shootout, securing the World Cup title.
