Croatia's national team captain Luka Modric took part in the voting for FIFA’s The Best award for the best player of the year. The ceremony was held on Tuesday, and based on the overall voting results, the award was won by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Ousmane Dembélé.
The 40-year-old Modric, who is currently playing for AC Milan, placed PSG midfielder Vitinha at the top of his personal ranking. Dembélé claimed the second spot, while Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal secured third place.
Notably, Kylian Mbappé did not feature in Modric’s top three. This comes despite the fact that Modric and Mbappé played together at Real Madrid until the summer of this year.
For the goalkeepers, Modric named PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma as the best, opting not to choose his former Real Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois. Courtois was placed second, and Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker claimed the third spot.
