Zavarzin: Safonov's Future at PSG Depends on Goalkeeping Coach

Former general director of Moscow's "Spartak" football club, Yuri Zavarzin, shared his thoughts on Matvey Safonov’s prospects at PSG. According to Zavarzin, the Russian goalkeeper's future with the French club depends less on the head coach and more on the position taken by the goalkeeping coach.

He recalled that even when Safonov was in good form and uninjured, PSG's head coach Luis Enrique mostly saw him as the second-choice goalkeeper. In Zavarzin's opinion, Safonov's hand injury complicates the situation further.

"He provided significant support to his team and did a great job. However, the goalkeeping coach plays a key role: when Matvey recovers, it will largely depend on the coach’s assessment of his performance.

A lot depends on that," Zavarzin told "Match TV." Safonov is expected to miss several weeks due to his hand injury.
