Former "Lokomotiv" President Nikolay Naumov shared his opinion on potential changes to the interpretation of the offside rule. Naumov noted that decisions had previously been made in favor of attacking players.
Specifically, situations where a player is "level" with a defender are no longer considered offside. However, the former official believes that the current proposals go too far.
"They will review it again with VAR, and I think this is not right. Furthermore, it gives attackers a significant advantage, which, in my view, is nonsense," Vprognoze cites Naumov as saying.
Earlier, reports emerged that FIFA is considering revisions to the offside rule. According to the proposed concept, a player will only be ruled offside if the attacking player’s body is entirely beyond the defender and closer to the opponent's goal.
