Former Zenit player Aleksey Gasilin shared his thoughts on how the Russia national team could perform at the World Cup to be held in the summer of 2026. Gasilin stressed that Valeriy Karpin’s side could aim for at least a place in the round of 16. “If we get opponents like Curaçao, and if we face not the strongest national teams from South America or Africa, we would definitely beat them. At the very least, we would reach the round of 16,” Metaratings quotes Gasilin as saying. Russia last took part in a World Cup in the summer of 2018. That tournament was hosted by Russia. Stanislav Cherchesov’s team reached the quarter-finals and lost to Croatia on penalties after a 2–2 draw. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
