Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris said that after Leeds defender Joe Rodon was injured, it became much harder to compete against the opponent. The Premier League Round 18 match ended 1–1. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
In the 28th minute, after the episode in which Sunderland opened the scoring, Leeds were forced to rethink their game plan: it was in that moment that Rodon suffered an ankle injury and left the pitch.
“We started well and scored. We had a chance to score a second. But when Rodon went off, the game changed — they began to play differently. It became harder both to build from the back and to press high up the pitch. That was the decisive moment,” Yorkshire Evening Post quotes Le Bris as saying.
The coach also noted that despite having eight players unavailable, Sunderland are showing character: “Against a strong opponent we played well for a certain part of the match. They are in very good form right now, so I’m happy with the result.”
After the draw, Sunderland are 7th with 28 points, just one point off the European places. Leeds are 16th with 20 points.
