Former Netherlands midfielder and ex-Inter Milan player Wesley Sneijder recalled the debates surrounding the 2010 Ballon d’Or ceremony. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
According to Sneijder, at the time he considered Lionel Messi the best footballer in the world and acknowledges that as a fact. However, when comparing the results and achievements specifically from 2010, he stressed that he had a stronger season than Messi and outperformed his rival in terms of trophies and accomplishments. In his view, it is no coincidence that, even years later, arguments about the award have not died down, with many still saying the prize should have gone to him.
For the record, in the 2010 Ballon d’Or voting Sneijder finished fourth. Ahead of him were Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
