Dmitry Guberniyev names Safonov the hero of the year

Well-known sports commentator Dmitry Guberniyev said who he considers the hero of the year in Russian football. In his view, the title deserves Matvey Safonov, who guards PSG’s goal. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.

“Hero of the year is Matvey Safonov! There’s no need to explain why,” Guberniyev was quoted as saying by Chempionat.

In the recent Intercontinental Cup final, Safonov saved four shots in the post-match penalty shootout and played a major role as PSG beat Flamengo to lift the trophy. Over the past year, Safonov won a total of six trophies with PSG, including the European Champions Cup.

PSG’s next match will take place on January 4 — the team will face Paris in Ligue 1.
