In Round 17 of the French championship, Toulouse hosted Lens, but a red card in the middle of the first half completely derailed the home side’s plans. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
Early on, Toulouse created a chance in attack: Odsonne Edouard played a pass to the right flank, and Florian Thauvin from 10 meters failed to place his shot into the far corner. In the 23rd minute, the turning point came — in midfield, Emersonn went in hard on Edouard’s leg and the referee showed a straight red card. After that, Lens increased the pressure: Andriya Bulatovich struck a low free kick toward the right corner, but the goalkeeper leapt to avert the danger.
In the second half, it became even more evident that the hosts were playing a man down. In the 57th minute, Thauvin surged forward on the right and delivered a ball into the box, Wesley Saïd laid it off to the center, and the rebound fell back to him — Saïd finished from the left side from 12 meters into the far corner to open the scoring: 0–1.
Lens kept up the wave of attacks: after a cross from the left, Saïd headed toward goal, but the ball went over the bar. In the 85th minute, Pierre Ganiu floated a pass in from the right, the goalkeeper saved Ryan Fofana’s 10-meter effort, but Adrien Thomasson converted the rebound in front of goal to make it 0–2.
At the end of the match, Lens punished their opponents once more. In the 90th minute, Ganiu played a one-two with Thomasson, broke into the box and fired powerfully into the far corner to seal it: 0–3.
As a result, Toulouse remained 9th in the standings. Lens extended their winning run, increased the gap over second-placed PSG to four points and further strengthened their lead in Ligue 1.
