Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso commented on the La Liga title race and the rivalry with Barcelona. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
On Sunday, Los Blancos thrashed Betis 5–1 and cut the gap to Barcelona in the standings back to four points. A day earlier, the Catalans beat Espanyol 2–0.
“Yesterday Barcelona won, and we still have to win many matches. We have 45 points now; our goal is to reach 90. Looking at the upcoming fixtures, it’s clear it will be a very intense battle,” Alonso said at a press conference.
On January 8, Real will face Atletico in the second semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup. The first finalist will be decided on January 7 in Barcelona vs Athletic (Bilbao).
