Insider Fabrizio Romano discussed the situation surrounding Xabi Alonso’s departure from Real on his YouTube channel. According to him, misunderstandings with players arose as early as when the coach was trying to implement his ideas in the team, particularly at the Club World Cup. Romano also recalled October’s El Clasico: in that match, after Alonso decided to substitute Vinicius, the Brazilian forward reacted with strong dissatisfaction. According to the source, he did not shake the coach’s hand and went straight to the dressing room, though he came back out shortly afterward.
Romano notes that after that, Vinicius did not rush negotiations over a new contract with Real, choosing to monitor the situation instead. The star player wanted to see what Alonso’s future would be.
Now, after Alonso has left the team, talks between Real and the 25-year-old Vinicius could speed up. The player’s current contract runs until mid-2027.
