Vinicius Junior was Real Madrid’s key figure in the 2026 Spanish Super Cup final. In the El Clasico played in Saudi Arabia, Barcelona won 3–2 to lift the trophy. Despite the defeat, the Brazilian winger once again wrote his name into the club’s history by matching a mark previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo and two other Real legends. Sunday’s final was the fourth consecutive Spanish Super Cup clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona. With the score at 0–1, Vinicius picked up the ball in midfield, beat Jules Kounde in a one-on-one run and fired a brilliant shot in the 45+2nd minute to level the game.
That goal further strengthened Vinicius’ finals output: he became one of the players with the most goal contributions (goal+assist) in finals for Real Madrid. Since joining from Flamengo in 2018, he has scored 9 goals and provided 7 assists in 15 finals — 16 goal contributions in total.
Cristiano Ronaldo recorded the same total — 16 goal contributions in finals — during his nine seasons at Real Madrid. The Portuguese star played 18 finals for Los Blancos, scoring 15 goals and registering one assist — a pass to Marcelo in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
Vinicius has therefore drawn level with two more legends — Karim Benzema (29 finals) and Ferenc Puskas (8 finals). First place is shared by four forwards, while Alfredo Di Stefano sits behind with 13 goal contributions in 15 finals. Vinicius could become the outright leader as soon as the next final if he scores or provides an assist.
At the same time, Vinicius’ overall success rate in finals still does not match Ronaldo’s. Their playing styles are different as well: Vinicius stands out more for dribbling and chance creation, while Ronaldo is known as one of modern football’s most prolific scorers.
Ronaldo won 14 of the 18 finals he played for Real Madrid, including all four Champions League finals, each ending in victory. He only fell short in the 2013 Copa del Rey final against Atletico, as well as the Super Cups against Barcelona in 2011 and against Atletico in 2014 and 2015 — resulting in a 77.7% win rate.
Vinicius has so far won 10 of 15 finals and lost 5. Four defeats came in the Spanish Super Cup (2021, 2023, 2025, 2026), and one was recorded in the 2025 Copa del Rey final. The Brazilian’s finals win rate currently stands at 66.6%.
